The Central Bank Congratulates the 2024 Financial Literacy Video Essay Competition Winners

Published: Friday December 27th, 2024

The Central Bank of The Bahamas congratulates the students who excelled in the 2024 Get Money Smart Bahamas Financial Literacy Video Essay Competition.

The 2024 competition received approximately 100 entries from Bahamian students across The Bahamas and abroad. The competition continued to focus on encouraging research on topics related to the Bahamian economy and improving financial literacy among students. The video essays adressed the topic of the financial sector preparedness for climate change:

“The Financial Sector is Unprepared for the Potential Impact of Climate Change on The Bahamas.”

This topic proved more difficult to tackle than previous years. Commenting on the submissons, the judges applauded students for their exceptional grasp of the damaging impacts that climate change was expected to have on The Bahamas. However, it proved harder for studnets to demonstrate the approaches that could be used to assess such outcomes and how it would affect the operations and viability of the financial sector. Governor John Rolle added, “This is a great opportunity for the Central Bank to engage with students on the topic of financial stability in general and to expose them to how domestic institutions are required to manage the risks that climate change and other systemic threats pose to their financial intermediation activities.”
