Press Release

Announcement of the 2025 T. Baswell Donaldson Research Competition

For the sixth consecutive year, the Central Bank is proud to announce a call for papers for the T. Baswell Donaldsons Research Prize. Mr. Timothy Baswell Donaldson was the first Governor of the Central Bank of The Bahamas and led the organisation through its transition from the Bahamas Monetary Authority. Mr. Donaldson was instrumental in establishing the Bahamas Institute of Bankers (now the Bahamas Institute of Financial Services), and he contributed as a past chairman of The College (now University) of The Bahamas.

In his honour, the Central Bank seeks to identify young scholars that are destined to stand out in their future contribution to Bahamian scholarship and national development in the areas of economics, finance, and business. The Research Prize is also in the tradition, established by Mr. Donaldson, of recognizing the value of higher education and technical skills and supporting progressive development of both regulators and other participants in the domestic economic space.

Students are invited to submit a completed, unpublished research paper on a policy, applied econometrics, or theoretical treatment, of a topic in business, economics, or finance that is of direct relevance to the Bahamian economy. The submission must be of an academic quality and adhere to academic standards of formatting and presentation. Final judging of submissions will be done by an independent panel of academic and professional experts. However, the Central Bank will identify a shortlist of up to five scholars, who will have the opportunity to further refine their work, with the assistance and insight of local and regional economists and researchers.

The deadline for submissions is 30th April 2025.

Completed papers should be uploaded to the competition website

https//centralbankbahamas.submittable.com/submit and should conform to the rules for submission also available on the site. Information may also be obtained by contacting the Central Bank’s External Relations Unit at [email protected]Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered.
