Circulation of New 5 Cent Coin
Published: Thursday February 5th, 2015
On February 9, 2015, the Central Bank of The Bahamas will issue into circulation, a newly designed 5 cent circulation coin. This represents the fourth denomination in the family of Bahamas circulation coins to be updated, following redesign of the 1 cent, 10 cent and 25 cent coins between 2006 and 2007.
The coat of the newly designed 5 cent coin appears slightly less lustrous than that of its predecessor, due to a change in its metallic composition. While the shape, size, and thickness of the coin remain unchanged, there is a slight reduction in the weight. The reverse of the coin boasts a more modern vignette of a pineapple, while the front, bearing the Coat-of-Arms of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, remains unchanged.
The new coins will circulate alongside the existing coin.
