Government Securities

Under the Central Bank Act 2020, and in conjunction with the Public Debt Management Act 2021, the Central Bank, in its capacity as fiscal agent, may provide public debt services to the Government, including the provision of advice or services in respect of the issuance, repayment, and management of public debt. The Central Bank of The Bahamas (the Bank) acts as Registrar and Transfer Agent for Bahamas Registered Stock and provides a secondary market for securities issued and guaranteed by the Bahamas Government. Bahamas Government Securities (GS) are classified in three categories—short, medium, and long-term. Short-term securities are those instruments with two years or less maturity dates. Medium-term are generally considered securities with maturities beyond two years, but under 10 years’ maturities and long-term are 10 years or more.
