Bank Supervision

The legal framework governing the regulation of banks and trust companies is contained in the Central Bank of The Bahamas Act, 2000 and the Banks and Trust Companies Regulation Act, 2000, which repealed and replaced the Central Bank of The Bahamas Act, 1974, the Banks and Trust Companies Regulation Act, 1965 and the Banks Act, 1909. Enacted on December 29, 2000, these Acts were part of a nine-piece package of legislation, which established a new framework for financial services in The Bahamas.
